Atrium Glass Replacement Project at Bexley Civic Centre
One of the jobs we have undertaken in recent memory was the replacement of two sealed units at Bexley Civic Centre. Located several stories up, it took a team of 4 glaziers and a crane to successfully deglaze and replace the two huge units, weighing in at around 160kg each.
Safety was the biggest factor in this job. As pictured, the glass was above a large pedestrianised area below. The toughened glass exterior panel had already broken on one of the panels, and on survey, we cleared up the shattered glass and later installed a temporary clear polycarbonate sheet to make the unit safe without creating an eyesore whilst we waited for the unit to be manufactured.
Works were then carried out outside of working hours, and a line was put into place which we harnessed to whilst we carried out the works. A mobile crane was then used to transport the glass in and out of position. We then used butyl tape and a structural sealant to reseal the new units in place.
